Warriors and Angels
Please allow me to take time out from my regularly scheduled column to invite you to the 2022 SONA Warrior Awards. In a time when we all understandably have a severe case of virtual fatigue (myself included), this is one event you don’t want to miss.
SONA has been working tirelessly (and successfully) to raise awareness and funds in the name of the dignity of our profession — ”songwriter.” The Warrior Awards celebrate songwriters, artist and friends in our community whose advocacy work, both in the songwriting world and outside of it, has been over and above the call of duty.
This year’s honorees are:
GRAMMY Award winning songwriter and recording artist P!nk who has been passionately outspoken about LGBTQ rights and same-sex marriage. (I’d say she’s got a lot more work cut out for her right now! )
John Platt — Sony Music Publishing Chairman and CEO whose company has contributed over $500,000 to songwriters across the country suffering from pandemic-related closures.
And beloved pop-country songwriter and creative rights advocate busbee, who passed away in 2019 at the age of 43. His energy and light are missed by too many.
The program will include interviews and congratulatory messages as well as performances of our honorees' songs by other notable artists.
If you’re local to LA and are so inclined, a ticket to the in-person Gala at LA’s Skirball Cultural Center on 7/23, where we’ll premiere our show on a large screen, serve you cocktails and feed you…is the way to go. If you’re not local to LA or gas prices have got you down, we’re offering a more affordable virtual ticket for 7/24.
If you’re in the game…or love and support someone who is, this is the place to be. So dust off your fancy clothes or fire up the pop-corn and order in. SONA promises to deliver a meaningful, fun-loving and entertaining evening. You won’t be disappointed.
